In the heart of Avonhead, Christchurch, a captivating kitchen design by Emma Johnson stands as a testament to the perfect blend of mid-century modern charm and contemporary functionality. This renovation project serves as more than just a cooking haven – it’s a visual delight and a seamless extension of the existing home’s character.
One of the kitchen’s standout features is the stainless steel benchtop, which elegantly runs into the window joinery, allowing natural light to cascade over the sleek surface. This union of form and function bridges the indoors with the outdoors, creating an inviting atmosphere for foodie endeavours. Complementing this is the second bench, crafted from 20mm Intense White polished finish stone, boasting clean lines and a waterfall end.
The ingenious use of space is apparent in a pull-out pantry, a feature that enhances storage convenience while maintaining the kitchen’s uncluttered appearance. The cabinets feature 18mm flat melamine doors, coupled with Rimu details to harmonise with the timber ceilings. Soft-close mechanisms epitomise the attention to detail.
The finishing touch comes in the form of the splashback, where classic finger tiles in pristine white draw attention to the cooking area. This choice enhances the overall brightness and airiness, reflecting light and creating an illusion of space. The tiles are also repeated on the servery bench.
Timber accents play a pivotal role throughout this kitchen, with shelving and a room divider showcasing the warmth of wood contrasting with classic stainless steel and white benchtops.
Emma Johnson’s kitchen design transcends convention, making use of available space, and paying homage to mid-century design while embracing the demands of contemporary living. It’s a symphony of materials, textures, and functionality that redefines the heart of the home.
